Wallace Lake

I took my 13 year old son to Wallace Lake last weekend to go fishing. He is an avid fisherman and is a true naturalist. Upon arriving at the lake, Justin made sure that he got my folding chair out of the trunk and took me to just the right spot for him to fish. We walked around to the back of the lake via a small path through the woods. A large box turtle was crawling up the embankment of the lake to higher ground. I stopped to take a photo of it since we both have a mutual respect and a love of turtles. When we arrived at "the spot" I set up my chair in hopes to have some quiet reflection time for myself while Justin fished. I did just that... Justin decided to meander farther down the path to another part of the lake to see if there was more fish down there, since he wasn't having any luck at his current spot. He was gone for quite a while and I got to slowly look at my cookbook and decide which recipies were worth trying out. There were several that I earmarked to copy for later.
Justin returned to our spot to fish more. He walked out on a falled tree (out into the water) and cast his line. When he looked down he noticed a fishing line attached to a small turtle and the turtle was struggling. Justin carefully lifted the turtle and brought it over to me. We found his fishing pliers and tried to pry open its mouth to extract the hook in its mouth. Justin couldnt get the hook out of the poor turtle's mouth since it was too far down its throat. So he cut the line so that it wouldnt get caught up in something else. We said a prayer that the hook would come out by itself and gently let it go into the water. Hopefully we helped it enough so that it was more comfortable at least.

That afternoon I did try out one recipie that was for coconut chocolate kisses. By later that evening my whole family had tried out the cookies and loved them. I was suprised because even I, am not a huge coconut fan. But we did love those cookies.
